Under 8's Match Report
Pontardawe Whites 0 -- Cimla United 1
C. Underwood
The opening fixture of the 2007/08 season saw the under 8's travel to Pontardawe. The home side got off to a bright start which saw them put Cimla under some early pressure through a succession of free kicks and corners. The Cimla defence however remained firm with James Edwards and Matthew Phipps looking solid. Confidence increased with good clearance work from Dafydd Davies in goals, who regularly found outlets through both Calim Bowen and Steffan Lupton who worked hard in wide positions covering a great deal of ground. Another positive for Cimla was the excellent work throughout the whole match from Toby Oliver-Meredith on his debut.
Following a goalless first period, coach Gary Underwood got to work with the boys at half time. This resulted in an excellent second half performance, which saw the Cimla unlucky not to take the lead early in the half. The decisive moment came midway through the second half, when, following some excellent build up play through the midfield, Cameron Underwood`s shot found the back of the net despite the best efforts of the Pontardawe keeper. Following this strike Cimla grew in confidence going forward whilst remaining solid at the back. Cimla were unlucky not to increase their lead as Morgan Pemberton went close with an effort late on.
The final whistle was greeted with delight by both the team who congratulated their opponents on the contest, and also the band of loyal supporters who had made the trip.
