Under 8's Match Report
Cimla United 1--- Pontardawe Whites 2

C. Underwood

Match-day Squad: Calim Bowen, James Edwards, Luciana Linciano, Toby Oliver, Morgan Pemberton, Luke Phillips, Matthew Phipps, Cameron Underwood, Ben Wyatt.

This was always likely to be a highly competitive fixture if the previous two meetings between these two sides was to be any guide with Cimla having secured a narrow away win on the opening day of the season, and the sides having played out a 1-1 draw at Cimla after the Christmas break.

The Home side set up for the first period with Morgan taking on the goalkeeping duties. It was the away side who settled the quicker, but perhaps this was no surprise as the elements certainly favoured them in the first period with both a strong wind and driving rain being against Cimla. The Ponty pressure eventually told when they managed to outnumber the Cimla defence and produce a strong shot which Morgan was unlucky to push onto the post only to see it agonizingly squeeze into the net. Pontardawe continued to use the conditions to their advantage but some great goalkeeping and solid defending managed to keep the score to 1-0 at half time.

The tactical substitution at half-time saw Luke replace Morgan in goal for Cimla. However the half time interval was also to see a change in the weather conditions as the rain stopped and the stiff wind present for the first period seemed to subside.

The second half started badly for Cimla as the visitors increased their lead to 2-0, when one of their attackers fired home from close range. But Cimla showed good determination and some good fortune when almost immediately Cameron reduced the deficit when he played a dangerous ball into the Pontardawe box which somehow found it’s way into the net. The remainder of the game saw the Cimla side desperately press to try and force an equalizer, but this was not to be and the game ended with a final score of 2-1.

The boys will look forward to trying to improve on this result next Saturday when they face Bryn Rovers at home in the final game of the season.
