The Cimla team faced their third difficult away fixture in as many weeks with this trip to Briton Ferry. Despite the excellent result against Cwrt Herbert last week, the team realized that this was likely to be a difficult game based on the earlier meeting between the two sides when Cimla were narrow victors.
A promising start from both sides saw Briton Ferry fire over the crossbar, and then both sides managed to force early corners. Calim had taken up the early goal keeping duties and looked confident between the posts. The scoring began when Steffan made a fantastic turn as he controlled a difficult high ball and in one swift movement fed the ball into the Home box for Owen to finish from close-in. The game continued to be evenly contested and saw good attacks for both sides. Cimla however extended their lead when Luciana’s ball across the field found Steffan whose shot passed both defender and keeper on its way to the Briton Ferry net. The first half scoring was completed when Cameron’s solo run and shot resulted in him scoring a fine goal.
Confidence was high at half-time and the main change saw Morgan take up the goalkeeping duties for the start of the second period.
The second period began unluckily for the home side when a long range effort from Steffan took a wicked deflection to leave the Home keeper with no chance as it became 4-0. There followed a spell of much even play which was ended when Steffan thumped a ball skyward toward the Briton Ferry goal, his spectacular lob found the back of the goal and immediately rebounded back into play from the back of the net. The goal was confirmed by one of the Briton Ferry coaches as it must have been very difficult for the referee to know with any certainty exactly what had happened. The Home side continued to battle well and was rewarded by winning a free kick in a dangerous position. They worked the free kick well to create a clear shooting position and the well struck shot looked to have “goal” written all over it, especially when it took a nasty deflection towards the top corner, but the shot was superbly turned away by Dylan who had replaced Morgan in the Cimla goal.
The Cimla side should take more confidence from this excellent away result as they prepare for yet more difficult trips in the coming weeks.
