Cwrt Herbert Blacks (1) v Cimla United (3)
C. Underwood (2)
T. Oliver
Match-day Squad: Calim Bowen, Dafydd Davies, Sam Davies, James Edwards, Dylan Kear, Steffan Lupton, Toby Oliver, Morgan Pemberton, Luke Phillips, Matthew Phipps, Cameron Underwood.
This was always likely to prove a difficult away fixture as Cimla met the Cwrt Herbert Blacks on their own patch for the second time this season , having been on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat earlier in the season.
Both sides settled well into their own patterns of play and this resulted in early opportunities for each side to take an early advantage, however good defending from both sides saw these early opportunities denied. The Cimla side had started with Luke in goals and he shared the goalkeeping jersey for the first period with Dafydd. The highlight of the first period came when a good tackle from James initially broke up a promising attack for the home side, and he then played the ball forward to Cameron in space in the middle of the field, and he took full advantage of the space as he went on a long arcing run, first out towards the left wing but then cutting back toward goal to pass the deepest Cwrt Herbert defender to leave himself with a clear sight on goal. His well struck shot was aimed just inside the post leaving the Home keeper with no chance and giving the Cimla a 1-0 lead. Cimla were unlucky not to extend their lead when Steffan had a couple of goal attempts. Both sides continued to battle well for possession and just when it seemed that the Cimla side would take a well deserved lead into the break, a couple of unfortunate missed tackles combined with deflected clearances saw the ball fall to a well positioned Cwrt Herbert attacker whose expertly struck shot was to find the Cimla net after striking the underside of the cross-bar. This was to prove to be the final action of a competitive opening period.
The half-time discussion focused on what had been an excellent period for Cimla, and it was decided that Dafydd would continue in goals, for the start of the second period, to be replaced later in the game by Steffan.
Cimla started the second half brightly despite the late equalizer that had been concede at the end of the first period, and their efforts were rewarded when Cameron went on a super run past the Home defence and struck a fantastic shot which thundered in off the post to restore the Cimla lead. A worrying moment came for Cimla when Steffan made a good save by parrying the ball into the air from an attempted lob, he chased back and appeared to just keep the ball in play, but in a close decision a corner was awarded. From this corner, Cwrt Herbert were awarded a free-kick when the ball was handled close to the Cimla goal. However, Cimla defended the resulting free-kick bravely. The scoring was completed when Toby went on a run toward goal which he finished with a thumping shot to make the score 3-1. Cwrt Herbert must be given credit for the way they finished the game as they put Cimla under pressure in an attempt to maintain their undefeated home record, but the Cimla defence held firm for what was a fantastic away victory. At the final whistle it was good to hear the complimentary and sporting comments made about the Cimla performance by the Home coach.
