Bryncoch Yellows (2) v Cimla United (0)
Match-day Squad: Calim Bowen, Dafydd Davies, Sam Davies, James Edwards, Dylan Kear, Luciana Linciano, Steffan Lupton, Toby Oliver, Luke Phillips, Matthew Phipps, Cameron Underwood, Ben Wyatt.
The Cimla team travelled away for this difficult fixture against local rivals following a run of recent defeats. However, despite the recent form the Cimla can take great credit for the battling performance put in during this game. The goalkeeping duties were shared equally between Cameron and Dafydd who both performed with credit to deny their hosts who had long periods of possession. Cimla defended with much greater resolve and determination than had been shown in their recent matches, and went in at half time having earned a share of the spoils with a goalless first period.
The half time team talk centred on the need to keep a disciplined defensive effort going throughout the second period and that if this were maintained then the chances to score on the break would surely follow.
The Cimla defence continued to function superbly in the second period and on the rare occasions when it was breached, Dafydd’s goal-keeping exploits kept the scores level. Late in the game it seemed that the Cimla defensive effort was to reap it’s rewards as Cameron raced through the Bryncoch defence only to see his shot deflect wide off the outside of the post. The disappointment was completed when the Home side were awarded a throw in late in the game, and the Cimla defence were slow to close down the attacking opportunity which resulted in a well struck shot finding the Cimla net. Immediately from the restart Cimla pushed forward in the hope of a dramatic late equalizer only to see the ball break for another Bryncoch attack as the final whistle loomed, but it was not to be Cimla’s day as they saw the Home side score in the final act of what had been a keenly contested match.
Surely if the Cimla side can match this effort in the coming weeks then they should be able to look forward to an upturn in results.
