What a game. Almost a hammering. Almost the greatest comeback since Liverpool v Milan. The supporters certainly got full value from this one.
The goal-keeping responsibilities were shared in the first half by Steffan and Calim, as the Home side settled quickly to produce some early pressure, but it was Cimla who took the lead when an in-swinging corner from Owen found the net. It almost became a two goal lead as Owen was denied his second by a good save from the Rhos keeper. The next major action saw Cimla cruelly denied a second goal as Owen again closed in on goal but was brought down when about to pull the trigger. Following this, a quick break out from the Home side saw them counter to level the scores. Rhos were then fortunate to score a second goal as the Cimla side stopped playing as they felt the ball had clearly gone out of play but play was waved on. This proved a big disappointment to the Cimla team who will now need to learn the lesson that they must play to the referees whistle. Cimla were clearly disappointed by the loss of this second goal and paid the price for not clearing their lines as they conceded a third goal just before half time.
The major tactical change at half-time saw Dafydd replace Calim in goals. The half time talk focussed on the need to be positive and play our own football in order to get back into the game, as we can always finish a game strongly. However the plan did not account for Rhos scoring from an early corner which despite being initially cleared was returned with power by one of the Rhos attackers only to seemingly take two possible deflections before finding its way into the top corner of the Cimla goal and leaving Dafydd with no chance. With the score standing at 4-1, there was clearly some concern that the team were about to meet with a very heavy defeat. This was however to prove to be the turning point as the Cimla side went on the attack to try and get back into the match. The score became 4-2 as Morgan got a goal back following a succession of goal attempts. Then 4-2 became 4-3 as a super run down the left saw Cameron cut in and produce a superb shot to find the back of the net. The visiting supporters could hardly believe their eyes as a few minutes later Cameron produced a repeat performance to level the scores at four each, following some surging play from Calim. With the great comeback complete it looked as though there would only be one winner as Cimla continued to surge forward, but an over commitment to going forward left Matthew isolated in defence and with a breakout from the home side involving half of the Home team there was little he and Dafydd could do to prevent Rhos from again taking the lead at 5-4. Despite this disappointment the Cimla side still finished strongly and were unlucky not to level the scores again as they fashioned another two excellent chances in the dying seconds of the game.
