Match-day Squad: Calim Bowen, Dafydd Davies, Luciana Linciano, Steffan Lupton, Toby Oliver, Morgan Pemberton, Luke Phillips, Matthew Phipps, Cameron Underwood.
It was great to see the team back in action following the recent Christmas break, and it was particularly pleasing to see that the players had managed to get themselves thawed out after the last match. The Cimla side made a bright start to the game, forcing a succession of early corner kicks, one of which was to see Steffan denied an opening goal as his shot was well saved by the visiting keeper. As Cwmamman pressed forward, their attack was broken up by good work from Matthew who played a great ball forward to find Cameron in space who took the ball on to finish neatly for the opening goal. Steffan was then denied as he saw his effort rebound off the post following some neat footwork in a crowded Cwmamman area, but he was soon to get on the scoresheet as he fired home a shot from distance which found the bottom corner to make the score 2-0. Steffan added to this when he thumped back a good clearance from a long way out which nestled into the top left hand corner for the pick of the days goals. Cimla’s fourth goal of the day was awarded when a shot from Cameron was initially pushed against a post and rebounded across the goal, and was adjudged to have crossed the line. Cwmamman were still prepared to press forward and force a corner, but this was intercepted by Morgan who played a good ball forward to Cameron who broke well and played in Steffan, who finished neatly for his hat-trick to make the score 5-0. The half finished with Cwmamman on the attack being prevented from opening their account by some brave goalkeeping from Calim in the Cimla goal as he saved at the feet of a Cwmamman forward.
The second half saw Morgan replace Calim in goal for Cimla, and the goal keeping duties for the second period were shared with Matthew. The second period started brightly for the Home side who forced an early corner, which saw chances fall to both Luke and then Lucianna in the Cwmamman box, but these could not be tucked away. Then a strong run out of defence by Calim, following a Cwmamman corner, saw him go almost the entire length of the field and coolly play in Cameron who finished neatly for his hat-trick. Then moments later Calim went on a repeat run and was unlucky not to feed in Luke as he saw the ball just run out of play. Then some brave goalkeeping from the Cwmamman keeper saw him deny Toby from close in. Cwmamman then began to create some pressure of their own, only to be denied by some some excellent defensive work on several occasions by Dafydd. From one of their attacks a clearance kick from Morgan found Cameron in space who took the ball on and finished well for his fourth of the day. However, Steffan was not to be outdone in the goalscoring on the day and he struck his fourth goal of the day to complete the scoring.
This represented a very pleasing start to the second half of the season which hopefully the team can go on and continue to enjoy all of the remaining matches.
