GIRLS UNDER 13'S SEASON IS UNDERWAY
The girls under 13's team have got their second full season as a team underway. Despite playing in the under 13's league nearly all the players are aged just 10,11 or 12 so are playing against girls a lot older and bigger than themselves.
The first three league games they played were against some of the stronger teams in the league and unfortunately resulted in three defeats - Penyrheol (5-0), Llangyfelach (3-0) and Dafen (1-0). The girls played some excellent football in all three games but were let down by their poor finishing, which had it been better could have seen some different results. Also in the Dafen game they lost Kayhlan Norgrove with a broken bone in her foot which will mean a few weeks in plaster for her. One of the many positives from these early season games was the form of new signing Sophia Rees who is an excellent addition to the squad, along with Georgia Davies who has dropped down from last seasons under 15's team where she was playing above her age. Congratulations should also be given to team captain Georgia on her selection for the West Wales Girls League under 13's representative squad.
On Sunday 4th November the girls faced Bishopston at Cefn Saeson in the first round of the league cup. In the early stages of the game Cimla dominated possession but were once again unable to find the finish to the excellent football they produced. Bishopston battled well and almost caught us on the beak on a few occasions but we were saved by Bethany Harvey who produced some brave goalkeeping to keep us in the game. Eventually our possession told when Jessica Cooper attacked down the left and cut in and finished well past the Bishopston keeper to give Cimla a well deserved 1-0 lead at half-time.
Having got that initial goal Cimla grew in confidence and the second half started with Cimla again the stronger team and we quickly doubled our lead when last season's player of the year Holly Jarvis used her pace to break free of the Bishopston defenders and finished well into the bottom corner (2-0). Half way through the second half Jessica Cooper scored her second of the game to make the game safe at 3-0. To their credit Bishopston kept battling away and in the final minute of the game scored a consolation goal to make the final score 3-1.
A special mention should be given to Georgia Davies and Lucia O'Shea who were solid in defence and Chelsey Harris who had an outstanding game in midfield.
The girls will now await the draw for the next round with anticipation and will return to the league games hoping to use their much improved finishing to improve their league position.
