The Cimla team and its band of supporters traveled in convoy with military-like precision for this away-day fixtue. Atrocious conditions saw Matthew bravely take up the goal-keeping duties for the first period. The home side started brightly and created the first attack of the game. However, the Cimla team soon settled and began to mount pressure on the Home defence. Both Cameron and Luke saw early chances, but they were kept out by some good defensive play from the home side. Despite the mounting pressure through some strong running from Calim and Morgan, and determined tackling from Luciana, the Cimla side were kept at bay for much of the first period by the Saron keeper who was busy all game and made numerous good saves. The opening goal came when Toby managed to fire home after a good spell of Cimla pressure. The only other goal of a well contested first period came when Steffan’s shot managed to pass the Saron goalkeeper but then stuck in the mud. There was momentary confusion in the crowd but the referee was clear that the ball had crossed the line and he awarded the goal. A very wet and muddy first period ended with Cimla holding a two goal lead which was always going to be difficult for the Home side to match in the conditions.

The team-talk at half time revolved around Jaffa cakes and the need to show the determination that had been the hallmark of recent second half performances. The second half tactics saw the goal keeping duties shared equally by first James and then Luke. The second period scoring started when Steffan netted his second to make it 3-0. Well timed substitutions throughout the game saw Cimla use a three player rotation which helped keep the players fresh in difficult conditions. Two goals each for Cameron and then Owen followed. Then with three Cimla players on the verge of a hat-trick, it was Owen who became the first to complete his as he bagged his third in succession. The scoring was completed when Steffan completed his well deserved hat-trick with the final kick of the game. As the final whistle sounded, and the rain continued to pour, quick handshakes were the order of the day as everyone looked forward to getting home for a shower or bath. Following this excellent victory the team will no doubt now look forward to next week’s home fixture with Pontardawe.
