Under 10's Match Report
Rovers faced a difficult tie against local rivals Neath Boys Club at Cefn Saeson, a game that was more about passion, effort and desire to win than quality of football. The first half was totally dominated by Boys Club, they took the game to Cimla who were on the back foot throughout and were fortunate to go into the interval only 1 goal down, the opposition failing to convert their dominance into goals. The goal itself was a beauty, an unmarked boys club player at the far post on a corner blasting the ball home on the half volley.
At half time an inspired team talk sparked some life into Cimla, they started making the tackles they had missed in the first half and gradually got on top of the opposition. The equaliser came when Connor Evans broke from defence and slotted Nathan Lazda into space, the striker's deadly finish with the side of his foot ending a goal drought following injury. Cimla worked hard to keep on top, chasing back and tackling numerous times to halt any Boys Club attack. The winning goal came from a free kick, Aaron Lupton's shot was cleared by the defence with the ball falling to Nathan Lazda's feet. He put in a sweet strike that had the keeper clutching at thin air, only to be denied by the crossbar, the rebound fell to Connor Evans who made no mistake from 5 yards. Cimla just about deserved the spoils through hard work and a committed attitude in the second half, this game though will not be regarded as a classic.
